Carmex Moisture Plus Sheer Tints Review & Giveaway
Most days, my lip routine consists of cherry Chapstick. That’s it. I used to add a raspberry-tinted mint gloss, but it (along with hand sanitizer, hand lotion & a TideToGo pen) was confiscated at the airport when I forgot a plastic baggie, and I never got around to replacing it. So, when Carmex sent me these two Moisture Plus tinted balms to try, I was excited but also apprehensive. I’ve been known to be a little, shall we say, picky when it comes to lip products.
Since I’m very pale, I usually stick with cool or neutral makeup tones. Naturally, I had to try the Sheer Pink tint first. I don’t tend to like crazy bright lip colors, so this was perfect. The product looks like it would go on much darker than it does, but it really is very sheer and adds just the perfect pop of color. I wore the Sheer Pink tint for a couple of days before trying the Sheer Peach because I just didn’t think it would be as a good of a color choice for me. I don’t know why I waited! The Sheer Peach has become my favorite of the two, though truthfully I like both tint colors.
The color lasts a lot longer than other tinted balms I’ve tried. I applied it in the morning, and it definitely lasted until lunch. It probably would have lasted longer, but I wiped it off with a napkin. The longest I’ve worn either balm has been 4 or 5 hours, but that’s because I end up wiping it off during a meal, not because it wears off. Unlike lipstick, it hasn’t left a ring on my drinking glass or straw.
Both balms live up to their name since they are pretty moisturizing. However, I’ve found that anything tinted never moisturizes quite as well as plain balms. For a tinted lip product, this does moisturize pretty well though. I do like that the tube is not your typical lip balm packaging—it’s more like lipstick packaging, which is nice.
One other thing I’m picky about—lip product scent. I never, and I mean NEVER, like the way lipstick smells, which is probably why I rarely wear it. Weird? Probably, but what can I say. I’m not crazy about the way these products smell, but fortunately the smell seems to go away after the product is applied.
Another thing—Both balms are only available at Walgreens stores and Walgreens.com, which is kind of a bummer if you don’t have Walgreens in your area (like me).
